Fuimos ir a comprar at Chichicastenango!
It seems a GRAVE oversight in the spanish language that there is no word for "shopping" - the term is "ir a comprar," which roughly translates as "go to buy." It does NOT fully capture the essence of the experience!
Anyhow, Sunday last I went to Chichicastenango, a huge market about two hours from Antigua, with some friends from my school. The big market days are Sunday and Thursday, with Sunday being the busiest, so I knew we were in for a treat. A couple of the girls were less than impressed - the sheer humanity seems to have overwhelmed them - but I have always loved markets, and Chichi was definitely no exception. It's impossible to capture the experience in photos, but I've tried ... multiply these pictures by a million, add a hot sun and a bunch of noise, and a sqwaking chicken or two, and you might have some idea of what it was like.
Oh, and don't worry, I managed to spend some cash. I very responsibly only took 400Q (around $60) with me ... and I returned home with 2Q. Yep, 2. I was pretty proud of myself! :)

I am proud of you too. Of course, that does not take into account the new camera that you had to get... right?
The pix are great. I love all the color.
